This is from the game Project Zomboid, where a zombie outbreak occurs in July 1993 in Kentucky which eventually spreads across the United States and the world.

The Twitter account @ TheKnoxEvent details what happened 30 years ago.

July 6, 1993 (Z-Day - 3)

0600 EDT: US military blocks roads in area of Kentucky nicknamed 'Knox Country'. No reason is given. Areas within blockade include Muldraugh, West Point, Brandenburg, and Fort Knox itself.

1100 EDT: Military personnel erect fences and checkpoints within the Knox Exclusion Zone. Entrance and exit are forbidden. Reports of residents being turned away at gunpoint.

Howdy fellas. Just wanted to share my thoughts here. Been playing plenty of custom PZ lately, and recently I've started doing sprinting zombies on the first few days of the outbreak, which means I can start listening in on the immersive radio and television broadcasts. One of the latest NNR broadcasts just noted that the infection had spread to cities throughout the world, including Newcastle, Seoul, Okinawa, and Mogadishu. Considering that the game takes place in 1993, this puts the reason for the outbreaks spread likely due to US military operations - Operation Gothic Serpent or the prior humanitarian operations were ongoing in Somalia, Okinawa is home to important Marine and Naval bases for forward deployed soldiers, Newcastle is about 5 miles out from a British military base, and Seoul houses the HQ of US Army Korea. Stands to reason, then, that the cause of the Knox Event spreading worldwide is likely due to deployed American soldiers. Not that it matters at all in game, but a nifty little tidbit from the developers I guess.

So if the character we play as is immune to the airborn strain, but not the bite, what's the percentage of those that are actually immune to the airborn strain in Project zomboid?

There are approximately more than 7 billion people in the whole world, and the lore seems to state that immunity to the airborn strain is extremely rare, so how many people is actually immune to the airborn at least?

Initially spared as my guess.

The Knox Infection would appear in regions where the U.S. has military bases or deployments such as in the UK, Germany, Japan, Okinawa, South Korea, and Somalia. There's a theory on Reddit that the KI was brought to other countries by U.S. military personnel on leave and reported to duty. Think of it as the Wildfire Virus from The Walking Dead or the T-Virus from the Resident Evil live-action universe. KI was theorized to be airborne, which explains why so many people became sick with the fever and turned into zombies. Or why the U.S. Army or National Guard suffered outbreaks behind friendly lines.

July 6, 1993 (Z-Day - 2)
0900 EDT: Phoneline outage continues within Exclusion Zone. Communication with Zone is impossible. Knox Telecommunications provides no comment.

1045 EDT: Fort Knox and Fort Campbell cancel leave for military personnel.

1200 EDT: Kentucky Governor Brereton C. Jones[1] claims he is "in the dark like everyone else" regarding rumors of illness outbreak inside the Exclusion Zone.

There's also a theory that Spiffo's burger is the cause of the Knox Infection. It could be form of mad-cow disease.
