Project DEIOS | Mapmaker Suite for Worldbuilders, Gamemasters and Storytellers (2024)

What is the current state of PROJECT DEIOS?

We are about to launch our first ALPHA soon.
Due to the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak the schedule for the Alpha releases has been changed.
We are unconvinced of the quality and value of the current state so we decided to keep working with full energy and enthusiasm to deliver an appropriate first ALPHA as soon as possible to you. Therefore we ask you for a bit more patience and invite you to join our discord for more details and answers.

The first release will come with the base features to draw landmasses, add landmarks (mountains, trees, unique locations) and the base interface to start exploring the new software.

Keep in mind that our first ALPHA will NOT include all features that are planned for launch but merely function as our first instalment to test whether our core framework is performing as expected. We are aware that you want to use it already as map making software, so we will put as much into it as we possibly can (save images, organize maps), but when it comes to a complete mapping tool, you will have to be patient until our second ALPHA launches in 2020.

What is the difference between DEIOS and DGNFOG?

When we started our company, the battlemap editor was the sole product and hence it quickly became the name of the company and the product itself. This has caused a lot of confusion in the past and we are slowly transitioning into our new brand that makes this easier to grasp:

DUNGEONFOG as a company will offer different tools to create maps:

  • Battlemaps
  • World, or region maps
  • Citymaps
  • Solar maps
  • Galaxy maps

DEIOS functions as an All-in-One Suite that encompassed all those tools in one bundle.
You will still be able to get smaller packages that are tailored to your needs, like “Battlemaps only”.

Is the battlemap map editor that is currently DGNFOG included in Early Access?

Until the launch of DEIOS, our battlemap tools at www.dungeonfog.com are still a separate service and are not yet related to the development of DEIOS. With closed BETA we will start to implement those features into DEIOS. Once DEIOS has launched, all battlemap features will be included in the standalone application as well as a the online and offline client.

I have a DGNFOG subscription for battlemaps, how does this affect me?

Right now: Our battlemap editor remains a separate service until DEIOS has launched. If you wish to pre-order DEIOS, you will be asked to register for DEIOS separately, but we will merge your accounts back into one, before we launch.

After DEIOS has launched:
If you want to remain a battlemap-only user, your subscription will offer you the battlemap editor as online tool and through DEIOS we will be able to additionally offer you a desktop application once we have launched the DEIOS Suite. We will transform your subscription into our new “Rent-the-software” model and keep it as “battlemap only”. See more on this matter down in the section “content subscription”.

I have pre-ordered DEIOS, when will I have access to the battlemap editor?

Before we start closed BETA, we will begin implementing the battlemap editor into DEIOS. Until then those two products remain separate. If you want to access the battlemap editor beforehand, please check out www.dungeonfog.com.

I already have a DGNFOG account and pre-ordered DEIOS, will those two accounts be merged?

Yes. With the battlemap editor implemented in Closed BETA we will start to merge your DEIOS and DGNFOG account, so that you can manage all your tools and services in one place.

Will pre-orders have access to all asset packs and settings that were funded in the Kickstarter campaign?

Yes and no.
The asset packs (dwarves, elves, orcs, etc.) were Kickstarter exclusive. We will not offer them as part of the pre-order store. Once DEIOS has launched, we do however want our beloved artist Caeora to be able to sell his work and so we will add them to the marketplace at some point after the launch.

When it comes to settings, there are different ways to get your hands on them:
When you purchase the standalone version you will have access to the base setting and thanks to Apocalypse Studios, to the Deadhaus Sonata Setting.

All other settings you can either:
a) buy separately at the marketplace (that will be available at launch), or
b) access them as part of the content subscription (see next question).

What is the content subscription and how will it work for me?

We got a lot of positive feedback on the fact that we offer new content each month as part of the battlemap subscription, but we also got a lot of critique that we do not offer the tools as standalone version. Hence, we are cleaning up our portfolio to make both things happen:

Purchasing the Standalone Version

Buying the standalone version allows you get the latest application version (incl. 12 months of updates & support) without any subscription. It will also give you access to the marketplace to buy additional assets separately there. The standalone version always includes the full DEIOS Suite.

Content Subscription

If you want to have access to ALL assets in the library, but do not want to purchase them all separately, you can get the content subscription. As long as you have an active subscription, you have full access to ALL assets that are being released as part of our content sub. (This does not include third-party asset packs where we just act as resellers.)

Rent-the-Software

There will be a third option, where you will be able to rent the software and the content subscription as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, that allows you to access ALL assets and also get access to the newest application version as well. Rent-the-Software will allow you to get smaller bundles, like the battlemap editor only.
