USA:
Most items ship from our warehouse in Milwaukee, WI, but if you are ordering a heavy or oversized item, we often have the manufacturer ship it directly to you to reduce shipping costs and save you money. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on shipment weight and destination. Eartheasy can ship to residential and commercial addresses in all 50 US States, but unfortunately oversized products do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii. If you are in Alaska or Hawaii and have your heart set on an oversized item, give us a call and we’ll try our best to help you with a freight quote. Unfortunately we do not ship to U.S. Territories or U.S. military installations at this time, but we are working on making these options available soon.

Canada:
Please check product pages to see whether your product is eligible for shipping to Canada, as unfortunately there are some products we cannot ship across the border. Canadian orders ship weekly on Thursdays via Purolator International and shipping costs include duties and taxes. Unfortunately, expedited shipping to Canada is not available at this time.

International:
Unfortunately we cannot ship internationally, including Mexico or freight forwarders. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Processing Time & Shipping Charges:
The "Lead Time" on a product specifies the number of business days for your item to be prepared by our warehouse. The Lead Time does not include the date the order is placed. This also applies for all shipping methods, including express methods. If your item is shipping freight, you will receive a call to schedule the delivery with your driver. If your shopping cart has multiple items, a shipping charge may apply even if some items are listed as "Free Shipping", as charges apply to items rather than total cart quantities.

Dimensions

The raised bed side boards are made from resawn cedar that's a full 1 inch thick and 5 1/2 inches high. Two boards stacked give the raised beds a height of 11 inches. Three boards stacked make a 16.5 inch raised bed, and four boards stacked make a 22 inch raised bed. Raised beds can be stacked as high as 33 inches.

Each size comes with corner pins the same height as the bed you order, so you can put the raised bed on hard ground or a patio if needed, and the tops of the pins will be flush with the top of the bed.

Durable Cedar

These raised beds are made from kiln-dried cedar. It is a fragrant wood with an even texture and strong natural oils to protect against moisture and fungal decay. This cedar long outlasts most lumber found in stores.

To further increase the lifespan of your raised beds, you can apply a stain or sealant. We offerEco Wood Treatmentas one option.Eco Wood Treatment works by penetrating wood fibers to create a natural buffer against water and fungal decay. It increases wood's durability while creating an aged, silvery patina after just a few hours.

Innovative Design

The simple design of these kits allows wood to shrink and swell, for better strength and durability in wet and dry conditions. Hardware like screws and nails eventually loosen as wood ages. Our raised beds assemble with rust-proof steel rods set securely through the ends of each board. So after years of exposure the raised bed won't fall apart, and yet it can be disassembled by hand if needed.

Set Up & Assembly

L-shaped raised beds can be set up on any ground surface that is flat and level. Simply position the boards so the notched ends overlap and insert corner pins to lock the boards together. Stack additional board layers to build the height of the raised bed. The corner pins will be the same height as the bed you order.

No tools are required to assemble the boards for the main structure of the raised beds. The finishing trim pieces attach with included screws, and a power screwdriver is recommended. Assembly instructions are included.

We recommend letting the boards sit in a garage, shed or covered area for 3-5 days to allow the boards to acclimatize to their new environment. This helps to prevent anycupping, warping, and gapping.

FAQs

How long will cedar last for a raised garden bed? ›

Most raised beds are constructed from lumber. Pine and other framing lumber will last about 4 to 5 years, while more expensive cedar will hang together for 8 to 10 years. Don't use redwood, which is an endangered species.

Is cedar good for a raised garden bed? ›

Cedar is often considered the golden standard for building raised beds, and it's my favorite option to use.

What wood should not be used in a raised garden bed? ›

Avoid using older types of wood treatments such as CCA, creosote, and Penta-treated lumber. Research from Oregon State University showed that pressure-treated lumber does increase soil copper concentrations by a minor amount, but only within 1 inch of the raised-bed edge.

What is the most durable raised garden bed? ›

Concrete blocks or bricks: These building materials can be arranged to form the walls of your raised bed. They are safe, sturdy, and long-lasting. Stone: Natural stone can be a beautiful, durable, and safe choice for a raised bed. Galvanized steel: Galvanized steel is another option.

Does cedar leach into soil? ›

If fresh cedar mulch is used, it can leach very small amounts of acid into the soil, which ordinarily will pose no problem and not make any noticeable difference, but if you already have an acidic soil, then it is best to avoid cedar mulch as it could make your acidity problem even worse.

Will cedar last as long as pressure treated? ›

Cedar deteriorates quicker than treated wood, even with the added maintenance. As such it's not always the best choice. Cedar typically does not last as long as treated wood, lasting around 18 - 21 years with regular maintenance while treated wood lasts 20 - 23 years.

How deep should a raised garden bed be? ›

A depth of 8 – 12 inches will suffice for most gardening situations. Because of the excellent drainage properties of raised beds, it is possible to grow an abundance of vegetables in a limited amount of space.

What not to fill a raised garden bed with? ›

Raised beds that are small and shallow (under 12 inches deep) are typically only filled with soil. Adding other organic materials to shallow beds usually isn't a good idea. Sticks, twigs, and other materials further reduce the limited soil space and can interfere with plant root growth and water drainage.

Is Lowe's pressure treated wood safe for gardens? ›

Safe practices for working with treated wood recommend treated wood not be used where it may come into direct or indirect contact with drinking water or a component of food, animal feed or beehives. The USDA prohibits treated lumber for soil contact use in their certified National Organic Program published in 2011.

Which raised beds last longest? ›

Raised Garden Beds Can Last a Couple Years to a Lifetime

Here's the short answer based on the type of material used for the raised bed: WOOD RAISED BED: 5-10 years. METAL RAISED BED: 30 years. STONE RAISED BED: lifetime.

Is it cheaper to make or buy raised garden beds? ›

On average, a DIY raised bed constructed from wood will cost $25 to $50 per square foot. To have a wooden raised bed constructed and installed for you, budget for at least $100 per square foot. (Find a kitchen garden company in your area.)

How long will untreated wood last in raised beds? ›

Pine will last an average of 5 years as a raised garden bed, and redwood will last more like 10 years. Landscaping block and brick can make for a good raised bed as well. They take a little more work since you have to level and compact the ground underneath the block much more thoroughly than for a wood raised bed.

Will a cedar planter rot? ›

Cedar's natural oils make it resistant to many pests and insects that can damage plants. It's also resistant to rot, which means it can withstand the elements without deteriorating quickly.

How long does untreated cedar last outside? ›

Untreated cedar can last 25 to 30 years without wood infusions or surface treatments, unlike many other types of decking material. However, this doesn't mean that a cedar deck requires zero maintenance.

Do you have to seal cedar garden beds? ›

Cedar is an excellent choice for raised garden beds because it is naturally resistant to rot, doesn't require sealing but can be sealed, and keeps some pests away. The following website has a comprehensive discussion of materials for raised garden beds.
